Dummy Receptacles (sometimes called storage Receptacles) are devices used to protect a disconnected plug from physical damage as well as from moisture and particle contamination. Dummy Receptacles conform dimensionally to their connector counterparts except that they have no inserts or contacts, hence, the name Dummy Receptacle.
Many plug connectors have been damaged beyond repair because a disconnected cable was dropped or left lying on the floor. Attaching an unused cable to a panel mounted Dummy Receptacle keeps the plug out of harm’s way and protects its mating surfaces and contacts. Dummy Receptacles also find use as plug holding fixtures on wire harness boards.
